What is a GLP-1 weight-management program?
GLP-1 receptor agonists are prescription medications that mimic a gut hormone involved in appetite, fullness and blood-sugar regulation. A program built around one is more than the medication: it is the assessment, a licensed clinician's decision, the prescription if one is appropriate, the check-ins and dose guidance that follow, and a care team you can message between them.
GLP is the technology platform. Care is provided by independent, U.S.-licensed clinicians working through licensed medical practices, and prescriptions are dispensed by independent, licensed U.S. pharmacies. Nothing is sold without a clinician's decision, and completing the assessment is not a guarantee of a prescription.

How is the dose set?
Every GLP-1 medication starts at a low dose. Your clinician steps it up over several weeks on a schedule they set, and can hold at a step, or slow down, if the current one is not being tolerated well. Your check-in answers and messages are the evidence those decisions are made on, which is why they are part of the program rather than an extra.
What are the side effects?
The side effects reported most often with semaglutide and tirzepatide are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach discomfort and reduced appetite. They tend to appear early in treatment and after a dose increase.
GLP-1 medications can also cause serious side effects that do not depend on the dose, including possible thyroid C-cell tumors, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, low blood sugar when combined with certain diabetes medications, kidney problems with dehydration, and certain eye complications of diabetes. Your clinician screens for these before prescribing. Message your care team about any symptom that concerns you; for a medical emergency, call 911.
Who should not take a GLP-1 medication?
The contraindications for GLP-1 medications apply at every dose: a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2, and a prior serious allergic reaction to the medication. Pregnancy, planning a pregnancy and breastfeeding rule treatment out. A history of pancreatitis or gallbladder disease, significant gastrointestinal conditions, type 1 diabetes, and medications that affect blood sugar all call for clinical judgment rather than an automatic answer.
